I was so excited to be asked to do the product shoots for Greyt Sweaters‘ new range of whippet coats for winter 2012. I’ve long been an admirer (and a collector) of these magnificent sighthound coats. The designs vary from season to season but they always follow and flatter the sighthound body shape beautifully, and the skilled owner/designer, Laney, has such an eye for colour combinations and clever mixing of fabrics and textures that the product shots are always a delight to do. I think this new range is the best yet. The soft fleeces and stretch denims are combined with chunky knit tuxedo fronts and the Greyt Sweaters hallmark stocking stitch high necks, and the colour combos really pop.
I always love doing commercial and product photography. It’s a chance to bring together studio lighting, design and marketing skills, and in this case the dog photography skills too. I’ve just acquired a new parabolic reflector for conjuring up crisp, directional light and I was very pleased with the way it worked to bring out textures and depth in the fabric shots. The delightful Theo and the gorgeous Joseph were such clever and willing models, ably assisted by bedlington whippet Merly and podenco Mischa who showed just how lovely these designs look on other breeds than whippets. And I love how Laney always trusts me to do a bit of design work too, for the adverts and publicity material. This month the adverts are appearing in Dogs Today magazine so keep an eye peeled for them if you’re a reader.
